LeAnne
I was a little bewildered at first as to what iso, shutter speeds etc. But I only had to ask & of course experiment. Overall it was well planned, good spots for shooting and topped of with commentary which was an added bonus.
Kate
Tracey is really knowledgeable across many different camera brands and types, and was able to show us how to best capture the scene with our own specific cameras. This was incredibly useful.
About the Daintree
Nestled along the northeastern coast of Australia, the Daintree Rainforest stands as a living testament to the wonders of nature's creation. Spanning over 1,200 square kilometers, this ancient ecosystem is one of the oldest rainforests on the planet, dating back over 180 million years. Its lush canopy shelters a staggering array of plant and animal species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. Towering trees, draped in verdant foliage and veiled in mist, form the backbone of this biodiverse paradise, while crystal-clear streams meander through the undergrowth, nourishing the forest's inhabitants.

Within the depths of the Daintree, a myriad of life flourishes, from elusive mammals like the tree kangaroo and cassowary to vibrant birds like the Ulysses butterfly and Rainbow Lorikeet. Beneath the forest floor, a bustling community of insects and invertebrates plays a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of this ancient ecosystem. But perhaps most striking of all is the sense of timelessness that permeates the air, as if the very essence of the rainforest is imbued with the wisdom of ages past. As visitors wander along shaded pathways, gazing up at the towering canopy overhead or listening to the gentle trickle of a hidden waterfall, they are transported to a world untouched by time—a world where the wonders of nature reign supreme, and the spirit of the rainforest lives on in every leaf and creature that calls this place home.
Weather and Climate
In September, the Daintree Rainforest experiences its transition from the dry season to the wet season, offering visitors a unique blend of warm temperatures and occasional rainfall. While daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius (70s to 90s Fahrenheit), evenings may bring cooler conditions, especially as the rainforest canopy provides shade from the tropical sun. With the onset of the wet season approaching, intermittent showers are common, contributing to the rainforest's lush greenery and vibrant ecosystem. While rainfall is often brief and localised, it's advisable to come prepared for the possibility of getting caught in a shower during outdoor activities.

When packing for your adventure in the Daintree Rainforest, it's essential to dress for both comfort and versatility. Lightweight, breathable clothing made from moisture-wicking fabrics is ideal for navigating the rainforest's humid conditions, allowing you to stay cool and dry even in the midst of a rain shower. Consider packing quick-drying clothing that can easily be layered to accommodate changes in temperature throughout the day. Closed-toe shoes with good traction are essential for navigating the forest trails, while a lightweight waterproof jacket or poncho will come in handy for staying dry during unexpected rain showers. Don't forget to pack sunscreen, insect repellent, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from the sun's rays and biting insects.

At the on-site licensed outdoor tropical restaurant, you'll savour the flavours of the Daintree with each delicious meal. Whether you're craving the famous pan-fried barramundi and butterfly chips or opting for one of the gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan options, there's something to delight every palate. With the restaurant serving as the hub for meals and workshops alike, you'll enjoy a seamless experience where culinary delights and creative inspiration come together in perfect harmony.
Why should you do a tour with me?
I have been a photographer for over 18 years and have a BA Hons Degree in the subject.

After completing my degree, I spent 5 years travelling through South East Asia, taking thousands of photos of people, landscapes, wildlife and even the underwater world.
I am now settled in Australia where I started up my business five years ago to teach photography and pass on my passion for it. In that time I have helped many budding photographers improve their skills and knowledge to the point that they are now taking amazing images without much effort.
I’m all about making photography fun and easy-to-learn with plenty of personalised tuition! Teaching is my passion and joy, and I aim to transmit that joy through imparting my repertoire of photography techniques on to my students.
I cannot wait to see the photos we take together!

The friendly and supportive atmosphere ensures that you'll feel comfortable and empowered to explore your passion for photography, regardless of your previous experience.
Is this suitable for beginners?
Absolutely! My Daintree Photography Retreat is tailored to accommodate photographers of all skill levels, including beginners. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your photography skills, this retreat offers a supportive and educational environment where you can learn and grow. The workshops cover fundamental techniques such as composition, and camera settings, providing beginners with a solid foundation to build upon. Additionally, I am on hand to offer personalised guidance and support, ensuring that you feel confident and empowered to capture stunning images throughout the retreat. With a focus on hands-on learning and creative exploration, this retreat is the perfect opportunity for beginners to immerse themselves in the art of photography while exploring the beauty of the Daintree Rainforest.
What type of shots can I expect to get?
During your time in the Daintree Rainforest, you can expect to capture a diverse range of shots that showcase the beauty and biodiversity of this ancient ecosystem. From sweeping vistas of lush greenery and cascading waterfalls to intimate close-ups of exotic flora and fauna, the opportunities for stunning photography are endless. Keep your camera ready to capture the vibrant colours of tropical birds, the intricate patterns of insects, and perhaps the majestic presence of wildlife such as the elusive cassowary. Whether you're drawn to landscapes, wildlife, or macro photography, the Daintree Rainforest offers a wealth of subjects to inspire your creativity and capture unforgettable moments.
What equipment do I need?
To make the most of your photography experience in the Daintree Rainforest, it's recommended to bring along a versatile set of equipment that suits your photographic style and preferences. A digital camera with interchangeable lenses allows for flexibility in capturing a wide range of subjects, from expansive landscapes to detailed close-ups. Consider packing a standard zoom lens for general shooting, a wide-angle lens for capturing sweeping vistas, and a telephoto lens for photographing wildlife from a distance. Additionally, a sturdy tripod will help stabilize your shots, especially in low-light conditions or when using slower shutter speeds. Don't forget to bring spare batteries and memory cards to ensure you never miss a shot, as well as lens cleaning supplies to keep your gear in top condition amidst the rainforest's humidity. Whether you're a seasoned photographer or a beginner, having the right equipment on hand will help you make the most of your time in this breathtaking natural wonderland.
Can I do this retreat with a phone?
While it's technically possible to participate in the retreatwith a phone camera, it's not the most recommended option, especially for capturing wildlife photography. The Daintree Rainforest is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, some of which may be far away and require the use of a zoom lens for optimal photography. While phone cameras can produce decent quality images, they often lack the zoom capabilities and image stabilization needed to capture clear shots of distant subjects. To fully appreciate and document the beauty of the rainforest and its inhabitants, it's recommended to bring along a digital camera with interchangeable lenses, allowing for greater flexibility and quality in your photography.
I have a camera but I'm not sure how to use it, can I still do this retreat?
Yes, absolutely! This retreat is designed for both beginners and experienced photographers. I provide valuable guidance on how to take stunning photos. Included in the retreat are workshops on composition, what do all the buttons do and editing your photos. Each of these workshops will help you to understand your camera and enable you to take beautiful photos of the rainforest.
However, if you have a camera but are not familiar with how to use it, I highly recommend taking my "Get To Know Your Camera" course first. This short course provides an overview of your camera's features and settings and how to use them to get the best possible photos.
By taking this course before the retreat, you will be able to get the most out of your camera during the retreat and capture stunning photos of the Daintree Rainforest.
What photography techniques will we talk about?
During the retreat, we will cover a variety of photography techniques to help you capture the beauty of the Daintree Rainforest. From mastering composition and lighting to understanding the use of aperture and shutter speed, you'll learn how to create compelling and evocative images that showcase the unique essence of this ancient ecosystem. We'll also explore techniques for photographing wildlife, including tips for approaching subjects respectfully and capturing their behavior in natural settings. Additionally, we'll discuss post-processing techniques to enhance your images and bring out their full potential. Whether you're a beginner looking to build a solid foundation in photography or an experienced photographer seeking to refine your skills, our workshops will provide valuable insights and hands-on practice to elevate your craft.
How long will we spend at each location?
We will spend between 30 minutes and 2 hours at each location. This will give you enough time to explore the area, take photos and learn about the historical and cultural significance of the site. However, please note that the duration may vary depending on the group's pace and interests. Please see the above itinerary for more details

Lightweight, breathable clothing made from moisture-wicking fabrics is ideal for staying cool and dry in the humid conditions. Closed-toe shoes with good traction are essential for navigating the forest trails, while a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses offer protection from the sun's rays. As the weather can be unpredictable, especially during the transition from dry to wet season, it's advisable to bring along a lightweight waterproof jacket or poncho to stay dry during occasional rain showers. Don't forget to pack sunscreen and insect repellent to protect yourself from the sun and biting insects. With the right attire and preparation, you'll be ready to comfortably enjoy all that the Daintree Rainforest has to offer.

Are gift cards available? Can I purchase this for someone else?
Yes, gift cards are available for purchase, offering recipients the flexibility to redeem them for any tour, retreat, or in-person course of their choice.
